Can i get a good dependable car at auto auction for $500?

are the cars at the auto auction reliable and inspected?|||maybe but they are not reliable and not inspected.

that's why they are being auctioned

if your not a mechanic avoid them at all cost|||You are better off buying a car from a private party using craigslist.org. In my area there are over 420 vehicles for sale by owner for $500 or less.

For $500 you can expect a car that runs and drives. Make sure you have it inspected by a mechanic before ANY money changes hands. Expect the mechanic to have a pretty long list of items that need immediate attention or will need attention in the near future.

I recently bought a 1998 Corolla with 167K miles for $500. It needed a starter that cost $240 installed.|||can i get a good dependable car at auto auction for $500?

Highly unlikely, sorry. The best you can hope for is that such a car won't be too expensive to fix up.

No, they are not inspected. Degree of reliability is unknown, but highly suspect.

If you can buy a car from someone you know and trust, you're way ahead. You'll know what you're getting and have some idea of what needs fixing.|||$500 gets you a car that still runs, and that's it! LOL you'd expect more than that for $500? Get real! What fantasy world are you living in?|||Yes, you could if you examine the car before you bid, because they are not pre-inspected.|||Maybe, but you won't be able to find them all the time. They end up breaking down after a couple of weeks of owning it.|||Not likely. And cars at auction are as is and as seen, they are not inspected in any way.
